sockapalooza decisions

OK, now that the insanity of the reunion weekend at the church is over and I'm done with my committment to the Charmed Knits Charity Knitalong for Wild Woolies, I'm ready to focus on the pair of socks I am knitting for my Sockapalloza pal. Even though her blog is very sparse, I'm thinking that a woman that likes very pastel sea colors will also like lace. What do you think of this Crystal Palace Panda Cotton? She mentioned she likes bamboo yarns and this one is bamboo, cotton and elastic.

The yarn has gotton good reviews here and here. It sounds a lot like Cascade Fixation, which I have used and loved (my favorite summer socks so far are my Broadripple Hybrids). The elastic should provide a little wiggle room with the fit (always an issue when knitting for someone whose foot you don't have handy).

The only thing I don't care for with the Fixation is the slightly boucle-like texture of the yarn. In the photos at least, Panda Cotton looks smoother. Like Fixations, the yardage is a little sparse, so I am ordering three balls.

The lace patterns I'm looking at are the current Six Sox Knitalong "Victorian Lace", Knittys Hedra by Cookie and a modification of Dublin Bay to bring the lace all the way down the side of the foot. I think a simple lace pattern would be best, since this is a sportish weight.

The yarn is beautiful. You will have to let me know how it knits up. I love bamboo yarns, but they tend to split so easily!

I would go with the Hedera pattern. It knits up beautifully with variegated yarn and is so stretchy that the pair I knit fit everyone in my knitting group! :)

I have this yarn but haven't knit with it yet. I would definitely put it in the fingering category, not sportweight, but it is very soft and is in lovely shades. I've heard it can be a bit splitty with needles that are too pointy and/or small, but like I said it is SO soft and smooshy.
