Placeholder heels
The denim sock number one is up past where the heel will be. Since I'm working with such a regular stipe in the yarn, I really think that afterthought heels are the only way to go. The stripes will go 'around' instead of 'back and forth'. I sure hope it works out.
In a EZ afterthought heel, you snip the yarn, unravel it back. The pattern that I am more or less following from the SockKnitters site has you put a "placeholder" of scrap yarn in where the heel will go. I like the EZ heels, because you just knit "until it's the right length or you are sick of it" to quote the woman herself. But I'm giving this "placeholder heel" a try.
