FO - The Widow's Shawl

Yes, it's really square, but I couldn't get high enough above the bed to even get it all in the shot, let alone to frame it properly. (I was standing on the footstool to get this shot.)

And here's a detail of one of the corners

As you can see by the dampness on the sheet, it's still quite wet. I hope it dries quickly, I still have to "pose" it for the final Amazing Lace Challenge.

Pattern: "Basic Black Shawl" by Cheryl Oberle in Folk Shawls. Border lace adapted by me from "#10 Narrow Pointed Edging" by Barbara Abbey in Knitting Lace
Material: Harrisville Shetland Wool - jumper weight Color #50 Shetland Black
Needles: US 7
Size: aprox 50 x 50 inches

Notes: used Emily Ocker's start from Elizabeth Zimmermann in Knitter's Almanac. Shorted the original pattern by one panel

Comments: WOW - April to August (but NOT the only project in progress during that time). Still in love with lace - but ready for a more complex design. This got really tedious towards the end.

Mentioned many, many times, but most of the comments are captured in this post - the introduction to The Amazing Lace, which was a great KAL this summer.

I'm drooling at your knitting. How long have you been doing it?

Your shawl is gorgeous! I think Folk Shawls is my favorite of all times shawl book.

Jane, I've been knitting off and on since I was 7, so about 40 years. I tend to wander away from the craft, then back. Sometimes it is years between when I pick up the knitting needles.

But THIS time - about three years. I was seriously into historic needlework when Walt died and somehow knitting comforted me more.

Amy - Love that book for 'everyday' shawls that aren't impossibly fine! I have at least three more that are waiting in my 'someday' list.
